If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, this one-day hike to Champadevi Hill is the perfect escape. It’s an excellent opportunity to enjoy the fresh mountain air, be surrounded by nature, and experience some of Nepal’s rich spiritual traditions along the way.

We start the day with a quick drive out of Kathmandu to Pharping, a quiet little village tucked away in the hills. It’s known for its sacred caves and ancient monasteries, and hundreds of years, people have come here seeking peace and spiritual meaning. Walking through this peaceful town, you’ll feel a calmness that’s hard to find in the city, surrounded by prayer flags fluttering gently in the breeze and monks quietly going about their day.

From there, the hike starts through tall pine forests. The path is steady but gentle, and as you walk, you’ll hear birds singing and feel the soft rustle of the trees above you. The fresh air fills your lungs, and with every step, the noise of the city fades away more and more.

The trail ascends, and once you reach the top of the Champadevi Hill, your eyes will be filled with the breathtaking panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley. If you’re lucky and the weather is clear, you’ll witness the scenic, majestic mountains in the distance.

Also, there is a temple dedicated to the Goddess Champadevi, where you can worship. Buddhists also place sacred significance on the Champadevi Hill. The hilltop is adorned with numerous stupas, chortens, and prayer flags.

After staying there for about an hour or two, we will then hike back. This is the most scenic hiking trail in Nepal, so don’t forget your cameras, which will capture lots of memories for you to take home.

Tour Itinerary

Day01

Drive to Pharping from Kathamndu and hike to Champadevi Hill

We’ll start the day with an early breakfast, then head out of Kathmandu by car. The drive takes about an hour, and as we get farther from the city, you’ll notice things start to slow down. The roads get quieter, the air feels fresher, and there’s greenery all around. Our first stop is Pharping, a peaceful little town with a strong spiritual feel.

Pharping is a special place for both Buddhists and Hindus. Before we begin the hike, we’ll take some time to visit the Asura Cave, where it’s believed that Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) once meditated. The cave itself is simple, but its surroundings are quiet and adorned with prayer flags. There are also a few monasteries nearby where you might see monks chanting or locals lighting butter lamps.

After exploring the area, we begin our hike to Champadevi Hill. The trail is steady and not too difficult, but it does take around 5 to 6 hours to reach the top. We’ll walk through pine forests and along quiet ridges. The path is peaceful—you’ll hear birds, feel the cool air, and see views of the valley open up as we go higher.

When we reach the top—at about 2,285 meters—there’s a small shrine and plenty of space to sit and take in the view. On a clear day, you can see far across the Kathmandu Valley, and sometimes even the Himalayas in the distance. It’s a great place to catch your breath, take some photos, or enjoy the quiet.

After spending some time at the summit, we head back down the same way. The return hike usually takes around 2 to 2.5 hours. At the bottom, our car will be waiting to take us back to Kathmandu.
